What is Reiki?

Reiki is a safe, gentle, nonintrusive hands-on healing technique for use on yourself or with others, which uses spiritual energy to treat physical ailments without using pressure, manipulation or massage.

It is a holistic system for balancing, healing and harmonizing all aspects of the person – body, mind, emotions and spirit – and it can also be used to encourage personal and spiritual awareness and growth.

The Japanese word Reiki (Ray Kee) is usually translated as “Universal Life-force Energy,” or “God-directed Life-force Energy”, or “Spiritual Energy.”

Rei is translated as the “wisdom and knowledge of all the Universe” or “atmosphere of the Divine.” It means the wisdom that comes from God (or the Source, the Creator; the Universe or All That Is), which is all knowing, and which understands the need for and the cause of all problems and difficulties, and how to heal them. Ki is the life-force energy that flows through every living thing – plants, animals and people- and that is present in some form in everything around us, even in rocks and inanimate objects.

The energy field and chakras in the body channel intelligence, energy and awareness into and throughout the body. When these channels are blocked or shut down, it can cause stress, negativity, and other conditions. Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning wheel or vortex, and there are seven major chakras in the human energy body. Chakras are an essential part of the body’s energy system, because they are intimately connected with our physical health. Each is linked with specific parts of the body and to systems within the body.

Reiki heals by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and charging them with a positive energy in and around the physical body where the negative thoughts and feelings are attached. This causes the negative energy to break apart and fall away. In doing so, Reiki clears, straightens and heals the chakras/energy pathways, thus allowing the life force to flow in a healthy and natural way.

Reiki is linked to a range of physical and emotional health benefits, including better sleep, improved mood, and pain relief in published studies. Research suggests Reiki helps the body return to a state of relaxation, which allows it to potentially better heal from damage brought on by stress, injury, or disease. There’s evidence that Reiki, used as a complementary therapy with conventional or mainstream medical care, can help people recover after surgery and manage symptoms of cancer and AIDS.

Studies have found that Reiki can have measurable benefits when it comes to lowering blood pressure, improving sleep, lessening anxiety, and reducing pain. Reiki is a holistic therapy and can complement other types medical care.

Five Reiki Principles

1. Just for today, I will not be angry.

Anger at others or oneself or at the whole world, creates serious blockages in one’s energy.  It is the most complex inner enemy.  Reiki is an excellent tool to remove anger blockages that have accumulated in the body over the years.  Letting go of anger brings peace of mind.

2. Just for today, I will not worry.

While anger deals with past and present events, worry deals with future ones.  Worry requires the energy to be spread throughout the entire body.  Letting go of worry brings healing into the body.

3. Just for today, I will be grateful.

Be grateful from your heart inward.  Inner intention is the important element in this principle.  Simple things as thanks, forgiveness, smile, good words, gratitude can improve others’ life and make them happy.  Being thankful brings Joy into the Spirit.

4.  Just for today, I will live and work honestly.

Support yourself and your family respectably, without harming others.  Earn a respectable living, live a life of honor.  Working honestly brings Abundance into the Soul.

5.  Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing.

Honor your parents, honor your teachers, honor your elders, and honor nature around you.  Being kind brings Love into the Will.

What can I expect from a reiki session?

As a Reiki practitioner, I encourage a you to schedule a free 15 minute consultation for you to meet me and welcome any questions and concerns. You are more than welcome to schedule your Reiki session without the consultation as well.

An intake form and consent form will be sent prior to your session. This will allow me to know if you have any health conditions that might impact your lying flat on your back or front or if you have any areas that are sensitive.

Reiki is offered in person or by distance healing (online). During a session, I will gently move my hands above or close to the body in a series of positions. Each hand position focuses on a different part of the body — including the head, shoulders, stomach, and feet — and is held for roughly 3 to 10 minutes, depending on the your needs. Additional placements on the limbs may be done as needed (for example, knee, ankle, or bottom of the foot). There is very little to no talking during sessions, which typically last between 30 and 90 minutes. Soft music will be played during the session as a way of masking ambient noise, but let your me know if you prefer silence.

The experience of Reiki is different for everyone. People often experience heat or feel refreshingly coolness. Other common experiences are pulsations or cascading waves of pulsations throughout the body where the practitioner's hands are placed. Some people fall into a deep, sleep-like meditative state or some don't notice anything and may have progressively deeper experiences if they continue.

Although people typically leave a Reiki session feeling refreshed, sometimes they feel more tired than usual. This is not viewed as an adverse reaction, but rather as the body's natural healing response, something to be heeded. People commonly report a sense of calm and mental clarity and sleeping well after Reiki.

Intake Form

The intake and consent form will be sent following your the scheduling of your Reiki session.

The intake form will inform me of any health conditions that might impact your treatment.

The consent form allows you to be fully aware that Reiki in no way is a substitute for traditional medical treatment or advice. I am fully aware that my Reiki practitioner will not offer any diagnosis or recommend any medical treatment or medication. Reiki is a complement and support to traditional medical or psychological care.

Energetic Assessment

To begin your 90 minute session, I will ask permission to make an energetic connection with you and for your intention for this healing therapy. This will allow me to channel energy to the areas that require healing and sending treatments for your highest and best good.

I will perform an energetic assessment by using a pendulum to check to check if your 7 chakras are too open or too closed. We will then begin to balance your Ki.

Don't have time for a full Reiki session? I 30 minute session is also available as a healing treatment.

Reiki Treatment

Fully clothed, laying down or seated in a chair, you will then begin treatment with deep cleansing relaxing breaths. The non-invasive, non-treatment will continue with a series of hand placements to channel energy and allow the Ki to move blockages within to create a healthy energetic flow. Crystals associated with the chakras maybe placed on the energetic points to amplify the healing. My hand placement will begin begin at the Crown Chakra and then move to each chakra successively, down to the Root Chakra, stopping on those chakras that are too open or too closed longer. You have the option to be treated to soothing background music and aromatherapy using essential oils of your approval.

To conclude your treatment, I will perform another energetic assessment to assess that your seven chakras are healthy.

After your treatment we will discuss the energetic assessment and any other questions or concerns that you may have.
