JAMEL SOLTAU

M.S., C-IAYT, E-RYT, YACEP

Jamel Soltau is the owner and founder of I AM YOGA 808, certified yoga therapist (C-IAYT), Reiki II practitioner, and member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists and Yoga Alliance.

Jamel was born and raised in Columbus, OH and currently resides in Honolulu, HI. Her yoga journey began in 2012 after her husband was diagnosed with spinal cord cancer.  Through yoga, he was able to regain the skills to walk, balance, build stability and more.  Following this triumph, she was challenged again as she was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, an autoimmune disorder leaving her with no balance or stability and in severe nerve pain.  Again, yoga was the pathway to healing.

Jamel completed a 200 hour yoga teacher training study in 2019 at Hawai’i School of Yoga under the tutelage of Zeny Ogrisseg. This experience emphasized the importance of the breath, awareness, and mindful living and how important both are on and off the mat.  Jamel believes anyone can receive the benefits of yoga on and off the mat. She continued her pursuit of holistic modalities, receiving her Reiki attunement in 2021 under the Bessie Estonactoc, obtaining her certificate of completion of Usui Shiki Ryoho in Reiki I and II. Jamel received her Master's of Science degree in Yoga Therapy at Maryland University Integrative Health and is certified as an IAYT International Association of Yoga Therapist.

My Vision

I offer a variety of individual and group yoga classes to share the importance of mindfulness and the connection of breath-mind-body by applying physical postures (asanas), meditation, breathe work and more.

For those looking for assistance to address stress and trauma related illnesses, such as cancer, PTSD, anxiety, depression, insomnia, and chronic pain. As a yoga therapist, I have undertaken specialized training beyond that of a yoga teacher, in accordance with the IAYT’s educational competencies for the training of yoga therapists and must adhere to the professional ethics, guidelines, and codes relating to the practice of yoga therapy as defined by the IAYT. My one-on-one therapy sessions provides guidance on how to slow down and become more present in your life while gaining awareness of what is happening in your body and how it relates to your current challenges.

All can benefit from this mind-body connective therapy that allows for a more present and meaningful existence to emerge. I especially focus on individuals seeking to address anxiety, trauma response, chronic health challenges and those wanting to improve self-care practices.

My goal for my students is to empower them to explore all eight of Patanajali’s limbs of yoga, allowing them to move towards peace, understanding and a life of abundance.

My mission for I AM YOGA 808 is to give everyone a judgment-free, safe space to explore yoga. Yoga is for everybody and can be practiced on a mat, a chair, in the pool, anywhere. My mission is to show that yoga doesn’t care about flexibility, young or old, rich or poor. Yoga is about union. The union of the mind, body, and breath. When we bring all of these together we create an awareness of self. This awareness improves your lifestyle, health, and compassion for all beings. Through compassion we break down destructive thoughts, feelings, and actions. Allowing peace to manifest in our lives.
